Hormonal treatment
Hormonal therapy lowers your risk of recurrence that is beyond what can be done via surgery, chemotherapy or radiation.
It entails a systemic treatment that goes through the whole system rather than targeting only one organ. This gets rid of cancer cells located anywhere in the body that might have been left behind after initial treatment with surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation.
Hormonal therapy is not just an ‘extra’ treatment but includes treatments that specifically target estrogen receptors in breast cancer and testosterone receptors in prostrate cancer. In most cases, the therapy involves a pill that you take each day at home. It might not sound as important as other treatments but is more effective against hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer than chemotherapy is.
